Frost's poem is rich with literary devices: personification, irony, imagery, dramatic tension, and onomatopoeia, to name a few, but Frost's title, "Out, Out-" is an allusion to Macbeth, both Lady Macbeth's line "Out, damned spot! Out I say!" and Macbeth's line "Out, out, brief candle!"
